FIA-FT3 Aluminum Fuel Cell

Description

This is a “direct-fit replacement” fuel cell for the BMW 2002 – meaning this will fit directly in place of the OEM fuel tank with no cutting to the body.

We designed this cell 1″ shorter on the bottom to give a bit more ground clearance. It is 1″ taller than the OEM fuel tank to maintain the 13.5 gallon capacity. Note: OEM rear trunk/boot floor mat will not sit flush on top of our Fuel Cell.

Fuel Pump

Standard Fuel Pump option is a Walbro GSL392 High Pressure 255LPH pump – Supports 650 HP (varies with naturally aspirated vs. forced induction). We install this with Holley Hydramat.

Fuel Sending Unit

If ordering with the Fuel Sending Unit, please verify the sending unit’s resistance range, for your choice of gauge.

For OEM gauges: The OEM fuel sending unit should output 90 Ohm (Empty) – 0 Ohm (Full).

Due to the age of these vehicles, there may be variability with OEM gauge/sending unit accuracy (We have had customers report that their OEM sending units have registered as high as 90 Ohms when empty). We have noticed that 85-90 Ohm resistance (when empty) is a decent point to protect against running out of fuel when the gage shows empty. Please select your resistance range based on your desired sending unit.

Newton Locking Filler Cap

We recommend this option with the OEM angled fill. Due to the 1″ height increase, the OEM rubber filler neck does not align with our fuel cell. The Newton cap solves this problem with the included hose.

Lead Time

Each Fuel Cell is made to order – the current lead time (as of 7/10/24) for a cell is 8-10 weeks.
